slashtag parameter causes link creation to fail c#

I am having trouble getting a link created with c# when I specify a slashtag parameter. I think I am using a string which follows the rules ie. slashtag = "abcxyz". When I don't include the slashtag parameter my code successfully creates the link. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?
